5 Great Tips To Starting A Successful Blog

There are literally millions of blogs set-up on the Internet, but only a fraction of these blogs are truly successful. What is the common theme among the successful blogs? It's their relentless focus on the needs and wants of their target readers. They truly understand their reader's and constantly deliver content that meets reader's expectations.
How can you do the same if you're just starting your blog? Here are five tips that will help you get started on the way to operating a successful blog.
1. Know your niche - We expect the reason you are starting a blog is because you have an interest in a specific niche. For example - you are not focusing only on "Chevy Corvettes" - but are focusing on "pre-1970 Chevy Corvettes." Make sure you tighten your focus as much as possible. The tighter your focus the better you can understand your niche. The better you understand your niche the better solutions you can provide your readers.
2. Know exactly who is your reader - when you first create your blog there is a danger expecting everyone - even in your chosen niche - is a potential reader. That likely is not the case, and if it is you are probably focusing too broadly. You want to be able to clearly identify your readers. So much so that when creating content for your blog you should have a picture of your reader in your mind. Is your reader young or old? Male or female? Married or single? High school or university educated?
3. Provide your readers with a journey - Your relationship with your readers is not open-ended. It should follow a specific journey with clear stopping-points along the way. Of course not all of your readers will be at the same location on the journey - and that's OK. No matter where they are they will see that the content you develop will help them reach their goal. For example, the journey might be to acquire, restore, show, and win a "Pre-1970 Chevy Corvette" competition within 18 months. Clear stopping points along the way might be "Still Looking", "I Just Bought It - Now What?", "Where Can If Find-Out How-To...", and "Off To The Show." Your readers will be able to identify with each stopping point along the journey - and no matter where they are on the journey will find relevant content on your blog.
4. Continually deliver helpful content to your readers - Once you've built the foundation you need to build the "house". In the case of the blog that means providing your readers with layer upon layer of great, relevant content. The content can be in the form of blog posts, videos, podcasts, e-books, or other formats. The point is to make sure your content lines-up with the journey on which you are taking your readers.
5. Know your reader's needs and wants - With an idea in mind of your exact reader you can develop an outline of your reader's needs and wants. What are needs? Peace-of-mind, safety, security, approval, and other "ego-based" needs. What are wants? Learning where to buy "pre-1970 Chevy Corvettes", learning how-to restore these cars, knowing where to get parts, finding-out how-to show the cars competitively. You should have a clear understanding of your reader's needs and the wants that will support these needs.
